FORT MILL, S.C. -- The town of Fort Lawn has fired police Chief Mike Revels after he was arrested Wednesday and charged with stealing money during an investigation in his previous job.
Mayor Clif Ferguson said he fired Revels on Wednesday evening, an authority he has as the town's mayor.
Asked why he fired Revels before the misdemeanor charge of misconduct in office was resolved, Ferguson said he felt the charge would be a distraction for Revels.
Revels was named chief in Fort Lawn in December. The charge against him stems from a 2007 investigation by the Great Falls Police Department, where he was chief at the time. According to State Law Enforcement Division investigators, Revels stole $100 of $200 from a victim during the investigation. Revels told The Herald on Wednesday he recovered $110 in the case and that he returned it all.
