The N.C. Department of Transportation is selling advance tickets for the toll ferries that operate to islands along the coast.
This service might be of help to anyone who is planning to visit the islands this summer. The service will continue throughout the year.
Ticket sales will require a credit car (Visa or Mastercard), and any refunds or cancellations must be made by 4 p.m. of the day prior to departure.
Travelers will need to make sure they select the correct ticket type -- single (for vehicles less than 20 feet long); double (20 to 40 feet long), or triple (40 to 65 feet long). Anyone buying a triple ticket must call 1-800-by-ferry to confirm space availability.
Toll ferries that accept the reservations include Cedar Island, Swan Quarter and Ocracoke. Fees are $15, $30 and $45 each way.
