Seeking food and fun? Try Got to Be NC fest

RALEIGH With sunny weather expected, organizers have high hopes this weekend for the second-annual Got to Be NC Festival at the N.C. State Fairgrounds.

The event honors and celebrates all things North Carolina, with an emphasis on food and agriculture.

“We've got a great agricultural economy in North Carolina. We have a great agricultural heritage, too,” said Brian Long, public affairs director for the state department of agriculture and consumer services. “It's worth celebrating.”

Entertainment

Today will feature an antique tractor parade and an antique tractor pull. On Sunday, watch souped-up lawn mowers battle it out on the race track.

Hours

9 a.m. to midnight today; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Food

In addition to the traditional fair offerings, carnivores can pig out from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the pig jig, sampling entries from the N.C. Masons Barbecue Cooking Championship. On both days, taste North Carolina food and wine at the food expo.

Music

Music fans will find something for nearly every taste, with beach, country and bluegrass bands playing throughout the weekend.

Rides

Thrill-seekers will want to visit the ride area, with diversions for kids and adults. From 3 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, ride all you can for $20.

Admission

General admission is free for all ages. Tickets for grandstand events are $5. Today's pig jig is $10 for adults, with kids under 12 free. Parking is free.
