A Chester man was killed Wednesday when a car struck the mower he was operating at an interstate rest stop in western South Carolina.
The S.C. Highway Patrol said the victim was cutting grass near mile marker 63 on Interstate 26 in Newberry County when the collision happened shortly before noon. Troopers say a Lexus went off the right side of the road and struck the mower.
The Newberry Observer identified the victim as Calvin Adams, 46. He was working for Chester Turf and Landscaping.
The driver of the Lexus, Bruce Glenn, 54, of Carlisle, S.C., in Union County. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized in Columbia, authorities said.
