A Newton man was killed Wednesday evening in a head-on crash during a rainstorm.
Newton police said the victim was Troy David Asbury. They say the crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. at the corner of North College Avenue and West 25th Street.
Officers say Asbury was headed southbound on North College Avenue when his 1994 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck collided with 1992 Toyota Paseo being driven northbound by Thomas Dewey Johnston of Conover.
Police say Asbury's truck overturned, and rescue workers had to free him from the wreckage. He was taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, where he was pronounced dead.
Johnston declined medical treatment, police said.
Officers are investigating the wreck but say it was rain heavily at the time.
