Southbound Interstate 77 is open again in Iredell County, after an overnight wreck involving a tractor-trailer closed one lane for about seven hours.
The wreck happened about 4:15 a.m. near mile marker 47, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol. That was just south of Statesville, approaching the Troutman exit.
Only one vehicle was involved, and the driver suffered only minor injuries.
According to troopers, the driver lost control of the vehicle, and the truck skimmed across the top of the guardrail and then went off the highway into a wooded area. Crews worked until after 11 a.m. to clear small trees and brush, so a wrecker could pull the truck out of the woods.
Traffic backups of 1 to 2 miles were common this morning, but the traffic flow should be back to normal soon.
