Members of the Hendrick Motorsports team will be on hand today at SouthPark Mall for the Treadmill Marrowthon, a benefit event for Be The Match Registry.
Be The Match Registry is the new name for the national marrow donor program registry, an effort to enlist donors to register their bone marrow and become potential donors.
The nationwide Be The Match Marrowthon runs through June 22, with a goal of adding 46,000 new members to the marrow registry.
The Jeff Gordon Foundation is donating $300,000 to the effort.
Today's treadmill event is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the mall. During that time, people will be invited to fill out health questionnaires and have the inside of their cheeks swabbed, to see if they are matches for people in need of a marrow donor. The program is open to anyone between ages 18 and 60 who is in good health.
