Cleveland County authorities are looking for a suspect wanted in connection with several recent thefts of chairs and aluminum ladders from the porches and yards of homes.
The sheriff's office says the thefts typically take place between noon and the early afternoon hours, usually in the northeast part of the county, between Shelby and Waco. Recent thefts included:
-- 2200 block of New Prospect Church Road.
-- 660 block of Elam Road.
-- 1200 block of Cherryville Road
-- 200 block of Tobe Bridge Road
-- 400 block of Ridgedale Road
-- 1400 block of Stony Point Road.
Detectives have received surveillance video tape from one crime scene, and they say it shows a slender white male, about 30 years old and of average height. The suspect is driving a small light-colored four-door sedan, possibly a 2000 Kia Sephia.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office, 704-484-4822; or Cleveland County Crime Stoppers, 704-481-TIPS.
The sheriff's office also reminds residents to avoid leaving items such as tools, ladders, motorcycles, and lawnmowers in plain view and unsecured. In addition, residents are reminded to photograph and record the make, model and serial numbers of their valuables. That information is a big help to police if the items are stolen, authorities say.
