The president of a high school athletic booster club in Stanly County was arrested Thursday and charged with embezzling club funds, the sheriff's office said Friday.
Beverly Rogers Thomas, 44, who lives in the southern part of the county, was charged with seven counts of embezzlement and forgery, in addition to other charges. She is presdent of the West Stanly Colt Club, the athletic booster club for West Stanly High School.
The sheriff's office said it received a report June 5 from club members about missing money. An investigation led detectives to charge Thomas.
Authorities have not said how much money was missing. Thomas was released on $5,000 bond and has a July 27 court date.
