Statesville is among 10 winners of the annual All-America City Award, the National Civic League announced Friday night.

The awards were presented at the annual National Civic League Convention in Tampa. Statesville was among two Carolinas cities winning the award, joining Kinston.

The award is given annually to cities that display outstanding civic achievement, including innovative methods of dealing with problems and programs to increase cooperation among residents and business representatives.

Statesville also won the award in 1997.

Statesville's theme this year was “Many Beats, One Rhythm.” A delegation of about 50 people from the city traveled to Tampa for the awards program. The group is scheduled to return in time for a celebration at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce building, at East Front and Cooper streets. The public is being invited to attend.

This marks the third straight year that a city along the Interstate 40 corridor won the award. Lenoir was a winner last year, and Hickory took the honor in 2007. Concord, Gastonia and Laurinburg are among other Carolinas winners in recent years.
