A Davie County woman who police say was fleeing from an officer was killed early Monday in a two-vehicle crash in northern Rowan County.
The wreck happened about 12:45 a.m. on Mount Vernon Road at Needmore Road, a short distance south of the Rowan-Davie county line. The N.C. Highway Patrol said Elizabeth Michelle Deese, 32, of Coolemee, died when her car collided with another vehicle at the intersection. Deese was driving eastbound, away from Davie County.
According to several published and broadcast reports quoting police, Deese was being pursued by a Coolemee police officer, although it is not clear why.
The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries, troopers say.
