A truck struck a bridge on Roosevelt Boulevard in Monroe early Tuesday afternoon, and traffic will be congested for the next several hours, authorities say.

The incident happened about 12:45 p.m. in the westbound lanes of U.S. 74, also known as Roosevelt Boulevard in Monroe. Engineers are checking the bridge, to determine if it suffered any structural damage.

Traffic is still moving on the westbound side, but some lanes are closed. Congestion is expected until about 5 p.m., according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.
