Mint Hill, Matthews plan July 4 celebration

Mint Hill and Matthews have some big plans for this weekend to celebrate the Fourth of July.

On Friday, the Mint Hill will present the Queen City Brass Band in a patriotic concert on the lawn of Mint Hill Town Hall, 7151 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Rain location is the Kerr Building of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, 11501 Bain School Rd.

On Saturday, July 4, festivities crank up at 5:30 p.m. in Matthews in front of the town hall, 232 Matthews Station St. Bicycles, skateboards and wagons will be decorated with free patriotic items for the People's Parade which begins at 6 p.m.

The nonmotorized parade will travel from town hall to Stumptown Park where everyone can enjoy games and interactive activities beginning at 6:30 p.m.

A concert by Too Much Sylvia begins at 7 p.m.
