Weather: All clear for the Fourth

By Steve Lyttle

Meteorologists say weather won't get in the way of any July 4th celebrations in the Charlotte metro region.

Mostly clear skies and seasonal temperatures are forecast through Saturday, although the holiday weekend could end with some precipitation.

A weak cold front that pushed through the region Wednesday is out of our picture today, leaving high pressure in control. Forecasters say humidity levels will be rather low, and with sunshine, temperatures this afternoon are expected to approach 90 degrees.

After a cool night, the same kind of weather is expected Friday.

The Fourth of July holiday is forecast to start with clear skies, although a few cumulus clouds might build in the afternoon. Forecasters at the National Weather Service say there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday evening, but most private meteorologists -- such as Pennsylvania-based Accu-Weather -- expect the Fourth of July to be precipitation-free.

By Sunday, however, forecasters agree that another weak cold front will approach the region and then stall over the Carolinas through Monday.

That will mean plenty of clouds and scattered showers and thunderstorms for the area.
