Charlotte firefighters have responded to a blaze Thursday morning in southwest Charlotte.

The fire was reported about 9:10 a.m. at a single-story home in the 1700 block of Archdale Drive, about three blocks east of South Boulevard.

Charlotte fire Capt. Mark Basnight said the first firefighters responding reported heavy smoke coming from the house. Motorists should avoid that part of Archdale Drive for the next hour or so.
