York County fire investigators have ruled the blaze that destroyed a martial arts academy near Rock Hill as a case of arson.
Fire destroyed Pak's Martial Arts Fitness Center, off Cherry Road, on June 24. Police also discovered racial graffiti spray-painted on the building, and authorities said Wednesday they believe the same people were responsible for the fire and the graffiti.
Some details, such as where the fire began and how it was set, remain under investigation, the fire marshal said. Detectives from the York County Sheriff's Office have asked other businesses along Cherry Road to provide them with surveillance video footage from the time of the fire, about 2:20 a.m.
There were no injuries in the blaze. Grandmaster Sang Kun Pak, who taught at the center for 16 years, said he plans to reopen the business nearby.
