Fun for lovers of music and scavenger hunts

Cats, scavenger hunts and organ music: Here's a trio of interesting events to choose from.

Music today

Robert Glick, associate professor of church music and organ at Erskine College, will perform a free concert at 2:30p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, 700 N. Main St. in Lancaster. Lancaster High School's Learn TV will set up a video screen enhancement so the audience can see the artist's work on the keyboard and foot pedals. Glick also will talk about the instrument and his music.

Glick, 58, became organist of his family's church in Pennsylvania at age 13. He earned a master's degree in sacred music from Southern Methodist University and joined Erskine in 1988.

The event is part of the 12th Vivian Major Robinson Classical Music Concert Series, sponsored by the Lancaster County Council of the Arts. Details: 803-285-7451.

A hunt for boys

Rock Hill Parks, Recreation & Tourism will sponsor a Mother-Son scavenger hunt 2-4 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Rock Hill Galleria Mall. Boys ages 4-12 with their mothers or other special adults will follow clues and use a digital camera or camera phone to record their findings in the mall.

Cost is $15 per pair, $5 for an extra boy. Tickets must be purchased in advance at any Rock Hill recreation center or at the parks office, City Hall, Room 390. Participants must bring their own cameras; they will receive a souvenir photo and light refreshments. Details: 803-329-5633.

Adopt a cat

The fifth annual "Cats Around Us" event will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 17 at S.C. 49 and Carroll Cove Road, Lake Wylie.

Cats will be available for adoption from the Animal Adoption League. Valerie Farlow of Noah's Wish will discuss how people can help the organization provide disaster relief for animals.

The event is sponsored by the Lake Wylie Feral Cat Coalition. Donations of unopened dry and canned cat food are requested.

Carol Butler and Katherine Gillis will offer animal card readings for $5 and $10. Proceeds will be used to pay for food and medical bills for feral cats. Details: 704-968-7664.
