Students in an undergraduate-level writing class at Pfeiffer University have raised nearly $1,000 in cash and donations to support Petey's Promise, a Charlotte-area nonprofit organization which helps people in need provide for their pets.
Students conducted a series of fund raising event, accumulating not only money and supplies, but also raising awareness of the need to help pet-owners who are having a tough time affording food and medical care for their pets.
"The events my Writing I students have organized for Petey's Promise this semester have been phenomenal," said Ashley Oliphant, who teaches the class. "I have been overwhelmed by the number of willing student volunteers that have stepped forward, and the campus community has responded well to the events we have presented."
Pfiffer is based in the Stanly County town of Misenheimer but has branch campuses in Charlotte and in the Triangle area.
