Uptown Charlotte is still waiting for big department stores to come back, but center city dwellers are seeing the arrival of more retail just outside the Interstate 277 loop.
Specialty grocer Trader Joe's is joining Target, Best Buy, Staples, Marshalls and Home Depot Design Center this week at Metropolitan, the urban marketplace nearing completion at Charlottetown Avenue and Kings Drive. The $225 million mixed-use development also includes 101 condos and a 10-story office building on the Little Sugar Creek Greenway.
Doug Smith updates the project in this week's Next Big Thing column.
