Trek bicycle concept store opens near Northlake Mall
Charlotte's first Trek bicycle concept store has opened in the Best Buy shopping center across from Northlake Mall, off Interstate 77 Exit 18.
The 5,600-square-foot store is one of 61 nationwide that the Wisconsin-based manufacturer has opened in conjunction with local partners. It's owned and operated by Steve Doolittle, Chris Vasiloff and Bruce Guild of Cool Breeze Cyclery of Mooresville, a 20-year-old retailer. The shop sells and services bikes and accessories for children and adults. It includes a special section dedicated to women cyclists, a fast-growing segment within the sport, and sells Gary Fisher, Cervelo and Serotta bikes in addition to Trek products.
The shop is also the third location nationwide to incorporate environmentally friendly design, including features to maximize natural daylight, energy-efficient lighting fixtures and lamps, flooring made from recycled materials and LED signage.
Hanesbrands announces white-collar layoffs
A Winston-Salem textile company says it is laying off white-collar workers in its home city, and also will close a yarn plant in China Grove.
Hanesbrands Inc. has announced cuts of 210 corporate and management jobs across the company, including 155 positions in Winston-Salem. The company said it also will close the China Grove plant in Rowan County by the end of the year and eliminate 185 jobs.
