Named one of the Top 25 Trendsetters of the Year by Modern Bride magazine and Best Celebrity Wedding Planner by Life & Style magazine, David Tutera is the name in event planning. Here, David shares with Carolina Bride his Top 5 Design Trends for Fall:
FashionBridal fashions will include lots of detailing, from intricate lace and beading to fabric florals. In terms of cut, Grecian-style gowns are getting a lot of attention, and I am also seeing many brides exploring new shades of white in their gowns. Instead of the traditional “bridal white,” many women are looking at champagnes, creams, golds and even soft tints of color, which allow them to better compliment their complexions and their overall wedding décor.
ColorMost brides who choose the fall season for their nuptials tend to want to reflect that in their color story with rich fall-like colors. Dark purples and deep orangey-browns like burnt sienna are great. Slate grey is another key color this season. Although it may not seem very bridal, it really makes an impact when used as a backdrop for linens and floral containers with the purples and oranges as the highlight.
FoodMore couples are trading seated multi-course meals for fantastic passed hors d’oeuvres and over-the-top buffets. For dessert, many couples are skipping the expensive cake and requesting dessert bars or butler-passed sweets during dancing instead.
DécorWhether it is because of the fall season or the more financially savvy nature of brides these days, weddings are starting to take a sleeker, more refined turn. The opulence of previous seasons is being replaced with slightly more streamlined floral designs and less fussy linens and décor.
InvitationsLetterpress is still gaining popularity as well as the idea of continuing the invite motif onto the envelope. For fall, the same rich colors of purples, oranges and greys will no doubt carry over into the world of paper.
David’s fifth book, “The Big White Book of Weddings: The How-To Guide for the Savvy, Stylish Bride,” is scheduled to be released in January 2010. His new red-carpet-inspired bridal line, David Tutera by Faviana, will be in stores in February 2010, and his wildly popular show, “My Fair Wedding” is in its second season on WE tv.
