Last season's record: 12-19, 2-14 ACC (12th).
Key returning players: Gani Lawal, F, 15.1 ppg, 9.5 rpg; Iman Shumpert, G, 10.6 ppg, 5.0 apg; Zachery Peacock, 9.2 ppg, 4.8 ppg
Best-case scenario: Derrick Favors might be the nation's best freshman big man since Ohio State's Greg Oden. If Paul Hewitt can use Favors as skillfully as Thad Matta used Oden, and if Shumpert can cut down on his turnovers, the Yellow Jackets could finish as high as third in the ACC.
Worst-case scenario: If Shumpert continues to struggle with turnovers and Hewitt can't find a wing scorer to draw defenses away from Favors and Lawal, the Yellow Jackets could finish in the bottom third of the ACC again.
Player to watch: Favors, F. Regarded by many as the nation's premier freshman at 6-foot-10, he has an incredibly polished set of low-post moves and will be a nice complement to Lawal.
