Does the IRS owe you money?

Residents of the Carolinas are missing out on more than 17,500 IRS tax refunds and economic stimulus checks that were returned by the postal service as undeliverable, the tax agency said today.

Nationwide, stimulus checks totaling about $163 million and regular refunds of about $103 million have not been able to get to the right recipient because of address errors.

Taxpayers due a stimulus check must update their address with the IRS by Nov. 28, the agency said. By law, those checks must be sent out by Dec. 31.

Undeliverable checks averaged $583. Regular refunds that were returned averaged $988.

Is your name on the list?

You can use this searchable database to see if you are due a stimulus check or tax refund from the IRS. The database won't tell you how much you are owed -- contact the IRS to find out.

The database will return only 250 results for each search. Narrow your search to help limit the number of results.
