$30 deal goes on at GW Fins, Gallery

More extensions of the $30 deal:
GW Fins (525 N. Tryon St.) will continue the $30 deal through July. On the menu: choice of lobster dumplings, Caesar salad or spinach and goat cheese salad; scallops with wild mushroom risotto, short smoked Canadian salmon with thin bean succotash, or wood-grilled breast of chicken with mashed potatoes; and strawberry shortcake or fruit sorbet. 704-716-3467.
Gallery Restaurant (Ballantyne Resort at 10000 Ballantyne Commons Parkway) will run its Restaurant Week deal (three courses for $30) through August, with a different menu each week; the lineup includes roasted Muscovy duck breast, house-smoked salmon carpaccio, New Zealand lamb and more. 704-248-4100.
Barrington's owner plans new place
Bruce Moffett, chef-owner of Barrington's (7822 Fairview Road), plans to open a second spot off Park Road in November, specializing in small plates and emphasizing local products. Moffett's younger brother Kerry, who has cooked with him at Barrington's for the last eight years, will be part-owner and head chef at the location, at 1701 Montford Drive.
Event for fans of wine, animals
The Wine Vault (9009 J.M. Keynes Drive) holds a wine tasting/Animal Control Pet Adoption from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday. After customers donated money to a pit bull the Wine Vault folks rescued, they asked to do more: This is the response. Kittens and cats will be upstairs, pups and dogs downstairs, and each person who adopts a pet will get a free bottle of wine from the Vault's Tim Wallace.
Beer, burger deal at Press Box
Press Box (1627 Montford Drive) has burgers for half price each Tuesday, and $1 canned domestic beers. Also new: half-price appetizers from 5 to 7 p.m. weekdays. Aug. 1 is the one-year anniversary of its management change, and burgers, dogs and wings will be marked down all day.
Village Tavern, Penguin make AOL list
AOL's CityGuide has come out with its voters' City's Best list. Winners include Penguin for best cheap eats and burgers, Melting Pot for best romantic restaurant and Village Tavern as best restaurant. It's at citysbest.aol.com.
