What the (expletive deleted) is going on around here?
First, the Mary J. Blige concert at Verizon was postponed at the last minute in late September. Then the Cheetah Girls backed out of their late-October show at Time Warner Cable Arena. And within hours after getting word that Mary J.'s makeup date was scrapped, I got an e-mail about the cancellation of Buckcherry's performance at Amos' Southend.
On top of all that, Janet Jackson postponed a concert in Greensboro last week. But at least she gave an excuse (she was ill). Camps for Blige, the Cheetahs, and Buckcherry provided no explanations.
These no-shows hurt all the more because so many other big tours aren't coming anywhere near Charlotte this fall. Coldplay. Madonna. Sugarland. Metallica. The Who. Nine Inch Nails. Beck. They've all got bigger flounder to fry. I'd say at least Neil Diamond is in town this December, but … I don't like Neil Diamond!
Never miss a local story.
Oh, well. Here's hoping we get a little more love in 2009. In fact, we don't even need love, necessarily; simply showing up would make us happy at this point.
