After four years together and the addition of a daughter, actress Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry have called it quits. And on Saturday, the French-Canadian model released a statement confirming the split.
"She is, and will forever be one of the most special and beautiful people that I have ever known," Aubry said in a statement to Access Hollywood.
"While I will not comment on all of the wild inaccuracies being speculated about in the media, I am sad to say that Halle and I have decided together to separate at this time," he said.
"... I am certain that we will continue to have only love and respect for one another. We have been blessed with the most amazing daughter in the world, and her happiness and well-being are the most important thing for both of us."
The couple's daughter, Nahla Ariela Aubry, is now 2. Berry, 43, and Aubry, 34, never married, but several news outlets report that they are working out a custody agreement for Nahla. Aubry, who sources say earns $700,000 a year, isn't asking for financial support from Berry, but does want ownership of their home in Canada, which he has been making payments on since Berry paid the deposit, according to Zap2it.com.
For her part, the newly single Berry has been in the public eye recently. On Thursday, right before news of the split surfaced, she made a cheerful solo appearance at a Linked Against Leukemia gala in New York, according to UsMagazine.com. She told Us that her daughter was "fantastic," and that she loved "everything" about being a mom.
And on Saturday morning she co-hosted the 13th Annual EIF/Revlon Run/Walk for Women in Times Square with fellow Revlon Brand Ambassadors Jessica Biel and Jessica Alba.
"I can't tell you how happy I am to be here," said Berry told the cheering crowd, who were walking to raise funds for breast and ovarian cancer research. "I am walking today on behalf of a friend of mine, Stephanie, who is fighting the fight every day. I feel you, I'm with you, and it's important that we're all here today."
Berry and Aubry first met at a Versace store opening in Manhattan in February 2006. The Oscar-winning actress had been married and divorced two times: to baseball player David Justice from 1993 to 1997, and to musician Eric Benet from 2001 to 2005.
