The New Belgium Urban Assault Ride debuts in Charlotte on Sunday.
Love your bike? Get a teammate, hop on and hit the streets. You'll tackle obstacle courses around the city - and a massive celebration of bikes and beer awaits you at the finish line.
The ride begins at 9 a.m. at Marshall Park, 800 E. Third St.
Two-person teams determine their own route and cycle to the checkpoints around town. At each checkpoint, the team must complete an obstacle or task - such as human bowling, piggyback polo and the paper boy relay.
Never miss a local story.
You'll need a bike, a helmet, a cell phone and an extra set of clothes (you'll get wet). Cyclists will pedal 25 to 35 miles, depending on their route. Family teams will ride about 15 miles.
The entry fee is $45-$65 and includes a T-shirt, backpack, raffle tickets for goodies, and an after-party with beer, music, snacks and drinks.
On display this year will be a one-of-a-kind beer bike that features a custom trailer fashioned from an oak barrel imported from Germany. Ice and a small keg can be nestled inside.
Also new this year: One lucky participant will win a New Belgium limited edition cruiser bike.
Online registration is open today at www.urbanassault ride.com . The last chance to register is Saturday at Brazwells, 1627 Montford Drive, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Contact email@example.com for more information.
