Novant Health Invitational Criterium
The women’s 25-mile event starts at 6 p.m. and the men’s 50-mile twilight race is at 7:30. Tryon Street in uptown Charlotte. www.charlottecriterium.org.
Approximately 200 professional cyclists will compete on a closed 1.2-mile course in what’s considered the No. 1 criterium race in the country; 35,000 spectators are expected. Related events include the race expo 4-9 p.m. at Trade/Tryon Square and the Trans Jam BMX Freestyle Contest at Third and Tryon streets.

The funnyman best known for his role as Money Mike in the 2002 comedy “Friday After Next” brings his “Growth Spurt” stand-up tour to the venerable arena.
Sheep Shearing Day
10 a.m.-4 p.m. Historic Brattonsville, 1444 Brattonsville Road, McConnells, S.C. $6; $5 for seniors; $3 for ages 4-17. 803-684-2327.
Interpreters at the living history museum will be shearing the Gulf Coast Heritage sheep and demonstrating how raw woolen fleece is processed for carding, spinning, dyeing with natural indigo, and weaving the wool into finished garments.
‘The Act of Killing’

Nominated this year for an Academy Award, this documentary feature interviews leaders of Indonesian death squads. Now old, these one-time gangsters helped the military overthrow the government in 1965 and are willing to re-stage their killings for the camera. Post-film discussion led by Will Davis, a lecturer on film at UNC Charlotte.
