Electric Run

9 p.m. Charlotte Motor Speedway, 5555 Concord Parkway South, Concord. $54 (ages 8 and older).

Bring your own glow sticks, LEDs and anything else that lights up (but isn’t hazardous!) to this nighttime 5K at the NASCAR track, which will be all lit up and thumping with music. The after-party will last until midnight.


‘Romeo and Juliet’

8 p.m. (also Friday and Sunday and performances through Aug. 31). Winthrop University Amphitheatre, Rock Hill. $8 ($5 students and seniors).

Shakespeare Carolina sets the Bard’s love story in a version inspired by the video games “Assassin’s Creed” and “Prince of Persia.”


The Fresh Beat Band

3 p.m. Carowinds Palladium, 14523 Carowinds Blvd. $44.07-$60.02.

Preschool parents could do worse than this peppy fictional band (from the Nick Jr. series) that’s built on positive pop music and hits on everything from country-western to Bollywood to hip-hop.


Irwin Tools Night Race viewing party

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., race starts at 7:30. NASCAR Hall of Fame, 400 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. $10. 704-654-4400.

Watch the race at the Belk High Octane Theater, which features a 64-foot screen with surround sound. Tickets include use of a race scanner to listen to driver and crew dialogues. Food, soft drinks, beer and wine will be available.
