Middle schoolers going to museums “helps students think differently,” says the Arts & Science Council’s Barbara Ann Temple, “and opens their eyes to new possibilities.”
To that end, the Leon Levine Foundation has offered a $50,000 challenge grant to the ASC, trying to get some 11,000 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools students into them: The foundation will match, dollar for dollar up to $50,000, all new and increased donations to the ASC. And if all goes according to plan, those kids will visit two of three museums uptown next school year: the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Mint Museum Uptown and the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture.
The timeframe is short: The money has to be raised by Aug. 18. Interested? Donations can be made at power2give.org.
