Reid’s of SouthPark (4331 Barclay Downs Drive) will host a Back to School BBQ with Sir Purr on Saturday. BBQ sandwiches served with chips will be $5 and draft craft beers will be $3 from noon-5 p.m. Sir Purr will be on hand from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

North Carolina Chef Showdown
The N.C. Restaurant and Lodging Association (NCRLA) is hosting the first N.C. Chef Showdown from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the N.C. Restaurant and Lodging Expo in downtown Raleigh at 214 Martin St. The showdown will feature 12 savory chefs and four pastry chefs competing to win the titles NCRLA Chef and Pastry Chef of the year. Chefs will prepare small plates and pastry chefs will prepare desserts for the panel of judges. Attendees will get to sample the dishes as well as cocktails from a mixology challenge. A number of Charlotte chefs are competing in the event, including Ashley Boyd, Luca Annunziata, Noelle Gogg, Matthew Krenz, Tom Marlow, Matt Tilman and Jossie Perlmutter. Celebrate the Chef Award
Luca Annunziata, executive chef and owner of Passion8, has received the Springer Mountain Farms Celebrate the Chef Award. The award is the highest honor given by the Georgia-based poultry company and is presented to chefs who demonstrate consistency in the dining experience, commitment to the use of local ingredients and culinary excellence. Passion8 is located in the Elizabeth neighborhood at 1523 Elizabeth Ave.

CO (4201-D Park Road) has launched a new tea, the CO Boba Tea. The Asian-inspired drink contains a tea base with milk or fruit added topped with tapioca pearls or fruit jellies.
