Emerald City (9 p.m., NBC) – The debut of a new fantasy drama about a woman named Dorothy swept into the eye of a tornado while searching for her mother, and transported to a mystical world governed by a powerful ruler who faces the wrath of a cauldron of witches. Dorothy meets three friends while on her journey to find her way home. In case you didn’t guess, it’s based on “The Wizard of Oz” – but very dark.

One Day at a Time (Netflix) – This is it. This highly acclaimed new series, a reimagining of the Norman Lear classic from the ’70s and ’80s, centers on a Cuban-American family. A recently separated, former military mom (Justina Machado) navigates a new single life while raising her radical teenaged daughter and socially adept tween son, with the “help” of her old school Cuban-born mom (Rita Moreno) and a building manager named Schneider. All 13 episodes land today. “One Day at a Time” could make the prospect of a snowed-in weekend a little easier to muddle through.
Grimm (8 p.m., NBC) – In the Season 6 premiere, after the massacre in Nick’s loft, Capt. Renard is determined to eliminate him once and for all. Also, Monroe and Rosalee struggle over whether to stay in Portland.
