The first half of Thursday’s exhibition against the Indiana Pacers was an extreme version of something Charlotte Hornets coach Steve Clifford has noticed all preseason: slow starts.

The Charlotte Hornets, who play their first regular-season game under their new name next week, say they’ve attracted more new season-ticket holders than any NBA team except the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Charlotte Hornets lost their final exhibition game 88-79 to the Indiana Pacers. They finished the preseason 3-5.

The Hornets plan to re-hang Bobby Phills’ No. 13 jersey during halftime of the Nov. 1 home game against the Memphis Grizzlies. The original Hornets retired Phills’ jersey after he died in a car accident in January 2000. The retired jersey went to New Orleans when the Hornets moved. Now it will be back as part of the rebranding.
