What is the Carolinas Public Insight Network?
It is a confidential database of news sources. The Observer is looking for Charlotte-area residents who want to volunteer to become part of the database and share their insights and expertise. Creating a bank of news sources allows our reporters and editors to regularly send out questions to sources about topics we cover or should be covering. We can reach new communities and find out what issues are most important to our region. As a source in the Public Insight Network, your expertise and knowledge can help us cover news, issues and events important to your community.
How do I sign up?
You sign up automatically if you answer one of our question forms on the web. There's also our online sign-up form, which allows you to tell us more about your background and expand on your expertise.
How does it work?
You'll receive an occasional email about a topic in your area of expertise with some links to question forms. We access your experience and expertise directly by searching for it in our database.
Where is my information?
Everything our news sources send us lands in the database, keeping information up-to-date and searchable. Your may at any time add new areas of expertise and change your profile information.
Who looks at my information?
Responses go the Reader Engagement Editor and select reporters and editors in the newsroom. Additionally, our partners at Charlotte ViewPoint may see some responses. We never use your information for anything other than journalism, and use only what you give us permission to publish. We don’t use your information for marketing or advertising or in any way share personal information. As with all sources, we do not make your name public without permission.
In the coming months, you may be called on to provide insight on other news stories through American Public Media and the Public Insight Network. Your participation will inform well-known programs such as Marketplace and other partner newsrooms.
How do I unsubscribe?
