Veteran Charlotte Observer editor Cindy Montgomery will oversee the Carolinas Public Insight Network, as well as other reader engagement projects for the paper.

Montgomery, whose last post at the paper was as metro editor, joined the Observer in 1990.

In her new role, Montgomery will be working with reporters and editors throughout the Observer’s newsroom. She is looking forward to helping Charlotte-area citizens get closer to the Observer – and vice versa.

"What readers think is news matters to us, and their insights can help us report and write stories with even more depth and authority," she said. "I want to meet and talk with readers through Facebook and Twitter and at their meetings and community events." This week she will be at the Observer's booth at the Southern Women's Show.

Montgomery is a Charlotte resident, who is married and has a son attending Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools’ Randolph Middle School.
