Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q brought the sizzle to Blues Brews & BBQ for the second time last weekend.
The Gibson team was the MBN grand champion in the 6th annual barbecue contest, which drew thousands of people to uptown Charlotte for music and cooking. Gibson also was the grand champion in 2007.
Never miss a local story.
MBN is the Memphis Barbecue Network, one of the certifiers of barbecue contests and barbecue judges. The Blues, Brews & BBQ grand champion gets a spot at the national contest Memphis in May.
This year's event drew 53 Backyard Grillers teams, 27 national or championship teams, 62 MBN certified judges from nine states, and 40 celebrity judges. Championship teams travel to multiple contests yearly and vie for invitations to national contests. Backyard Grillers teams are local people who may compete only in one or two festivals.
