Catawba County animal control officials confiscated more than 100 dogs from a home southeast of Newton Monday, saying the animals were being kept in unsanitary conditions.
An anonymous caller contacted authorities about the situation. Animal-control officials found 115 rat terriers and about a dozen Great Danes at the home on Bud Arndt Road, according to Animal Services Manager Jay Blatche.
The dogs were apparently being bred for sale.
Blatche said that Eric Eugene Weaver and Gail Campbell Weaver, who own the property, signed over the animals to his department.
A team of veterinarians will determine which of the animals can be adopted. Animal-control officials were searching for space to place the dogs after they've been examined.
No charges have been filed in the case and investigation is continuing, Blatche said today.
