Most of the 153 dogs confiscated from a Catawba County home Tuesday due to unsanitary conditions will be available for adoption Thursday.
The rat terriers are at the county animal shelter behind the Justice Center off U.S. 321 Business in Newton.
The terriers and about a dozen great Danes were taken from a home southeast of Newton after an anonymous caller complained that the animals were living in poor conditions. A rescue group has taken the great Danes and some of the rat terriers.
The county is waiving adoption fees for the dogs. Anyone wanting to make donations to help in the cost of the adoption effort can call 828-465-8228. To see pictures of the dogs online, go to www.catawbacountync.gov/depts/es/animal.asp.
