Families of about 66,000 elementary students will be able to check their children's grades, attendance, class schedules and homework assignments beginning this month.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is expanding its Parent Assistant Web site, which debuted in middle and high schools last school year, to include the district's 100 elementary schools.
Never miss a local story.
“Parents have real-time data, directly into the teachers' grade books, at their fingertips,” said Jay Parker, a CMS official who helped develop the system and has children in elementary school.
With just the older grades, 15,000 to 20,000 parents visit the site each day, Parker said; the addition of elementary schools could double that. Others can't tap into the student records; parents will get letters bearing a user name and password for their kids.
The information is available in English, Spanish and French. Those who need help using the system can call 980-343-6192, Monday through Oct. 31, or e-mail email@example.com.
