What do you think is the most important issue facing the state and how would you handle it?
I believe that strengthening our economy and protecting our jobs are two major issues. A major part of that is putting resources toward repairing our crumbling infrastructure, which will result in increased jobs and a stronger economy. As transportation chair in the N.C. House, I have served on the 21st Century Transportation Committee to bring recommendations to the 2009 General Assembly to identify new revenue sources to meet our growing transportation needs.
Why should voters choose you and not your opponent?
I have a proven record of working in a bipartisan manner to solve problems facing both rural and urban communities across the state.
Have you read North Carolina's open meetings and records laws, and what is your level of commitment to openness in government?
Yes, I have. I support transparency and openness in government. I was a primary sponsor of House Bill 2653 in 2007 to televise our legislative sessions.
