Attention graffiti artists: It's a safe bet this will be your last chance this year to get paid for your work in Charlotte. (Gangs cannot apply.)
Carolina Actors Studio Theatre is producing the play “Savage in Limbo” next month, and it's set in a seedy Bronx bar. Among the company's many needs, including 27 tall bar stools with backs and cocktail tables in any condition, is art to decorate the set – specifically, graffiti.
The play opens Dec. 11, and director Paige Johnston Thomas needs contributors to decorate inside and outside the theater. Artists selected will be able to display works at CAST as part of the production and perhaps give a live demonstration during pre-show times.
The first prize is $100 in cash and a season ticket for 2008-2009. The winner will also have a chance to qualify for set design and artwork for future productions at CAST.
Artists can e-mail samples to firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline to contact her is Monday; anyone picked in the first-round must submit final sketches or mock-ups by Nov. 29. The winner will be announced Dec. 1 and must execute all the art by Dec. 6.
