A Lincoln County 16-year-old was killed Sunday evening after being ejected from an ATV, the N.C. Highway Patrol said.
The teen, whose name was not released, was driving the ATV at a high rate of speed and lost control on a road near Hwy 274, trooper S.J. Boyles said. The teen was ejected and hit a tree. He died before reaching the hospital.

A 15-year-old passenger was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center. He was talking and didn't appear to suffer life-threatening injuries, Boyles said.
