A Charlotte man and a Lenoir man were arrested Friday by Caldwell County authorities in connection with a drug operation, authorities say.
The Caldwell county Sheriff's Office said it arrested Fred Carrasco, 32, of Charlotte, and Ronnie Hamby, 29, of Lenoir, after searching a rental house in Lenoir. Sheriff Alan Jones said the search was part of an undercover operation in which an informant bought drugs.
Jones said agents found 28 pounds of marijuana, 6 grams of cocaine and numerous prescription pills, with an estimated street value of more than $100,000. Agents also found six pistols and two assault rifles, the sheriff said.
“This place was identified as a major distribution hub for marijuana and cocaine,” Jones said. “Our agency, working in partnership with the SBI and Lenoir Police Department, managed to close shop for them.”
Police say Carrasco was charged with two counts of trafficking in marijuana.
Hamby faces numerous charges, including one count each of trafficking marijuana by possession; conspiracy to traffic marijuana; possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; and maintaining a dwelling to keep or store a controlled substance.
