Two West Iredell High School students face drug charges after the school's resource officer found marijuana and drug paraphernalia on them in the school Monday afternoon, Sheriff Phil Redmond said.
Sheriff’s Deputy Dallas Hicks, the resource officer, was walking the hallways between classes at 1 p.m. when he noticed the students in an unauthorized area.
Never miss a local story.
Hicks saw them go into a bathroom, followed them and saw one of the students with a lighter in his hand, which violates school policy, Redmond said.
Hicks escorted the students to the office. After a brief interview, one of the students said he had marijuana in his pocket. The student pulled a small plastic baggie of marijuana from his pants pocket and gave it to Hicks, Redmond said.
Hicks charged Divante Blackwell, 18, of Statesville with possession of drug paraphernalia and Salvador Tellez Sanchez, 16, of Statesville with possession of marijuana. Both are free pending an October court date.
