Somehow, January has quickly slipped away. Where did it go? With the arrival of February comes the trickle of new spring apparel in local retail stores as we begin to anxiously anticipate the return of warmer days, shorter sleeves and open-toed shoes.
In the meantime, there are some fantastic sales that we must not miss as bright corals and creams replace blues and grays; heavy wool pants give way to light, flowing skirts.
I love this time of year when it comes to my obsession with frugal fashion. Although the persuasive optimism of new spring apparel may be distracting, I suggest you first take this opportunity to get a jump-start on your sweater and jacket collection for next winter. A few tips for shopping winter sales:Stick to basic colors. Neutrals or basics such as red, blue, green, etc. are a better choice than that brownish olive that no doubt will be nonexistent in next year’s winter fashions.Focus on classic styles. It is totally fine to wear something from last year’s racks but it doesn’t mean everyone else has to know! Wearing a v-neck sweater from a year or two ago will be much easier to pull off than a balloon skirt that was only in for one season.Be careful when buying trends. Trends go through phases-keep an eye on them and follow fashion projections. The military look has been trending for a while and may soon fade out while pointy shoulders and big, puffy or ruched sleeves seem to just be trending in. Wear some now; stash some for next year for that euphoric ‘new outfit’ feeling.
