Essay competition: The Intermezzo Awards is holding an essay competition for high school students in Charlotte studying dance, music and theater. The essay must be 500 words detailing how T.S. Eliot's poems are adapted in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical "Cats." The winning essay will receive a gift certificate for tickets to a performance of the musical in May at the Belk Theatre. Coaches needed: Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department is asking for adult volunteers to coach youth baseball teams for the 2011 season. Spring cleaning tips: The town is asking residents to follow certain steps when getting rid of unwanted items during spring cleaning. Residents can sell unwanted items at the Community Yard Sale on May7 by registering for a table at the Belle Johnston Community Center, 1000 Johnston Drive. Residents can eave unwanted items on the curb for pick-up during the Junk Run during the week of April 18. The town is also asking residents to keep grass clippings off curbs, sidewalks and streets.
