An overturned tractor-trailer closed a section of Billy Graham Parkway in southwest Charlotte this afternoon as crews rushed to help one injured person and clean up the mulch that was spilled onto the roadway.
The wreck happened just after 3 p.m. near the intersection of Billy Graham Parkway and Westmont Drive. Observer news partner WCNC-TV reports that the tractor-trailer overturned after crashing with an SUV.
Aerial footage from the scene showed the 18-wheeler on its side and blocking the street. The mulch it was carrying was sprawled across the roadway, as well as in the grassy median. A section of the road remained closed for more than two hours, causing delays during the afternoon commute.
It took 18 Charlotte firefighters about 25 minutes to free someone trapped inside a vehicle. Paramedics said they took one person to Carolinas Medical Center with injuries described as potentially life threatening.
