Heat and humidity combined Wednesday to produce storms for a fourth straight evening in the Charlotte area.
Duke Energy personnel said there were about nearly 2,000 power outages in Mecklenburg County about 7:30 p.m. In North Carolina and South Carolina, there were an estimated 8,700 outages.
A flash-flood warning was issued for Northwestern Cabarrus and Rowan counties until 9 p.m. The National Weather Service cautioned that rainfall as heavy as two inches per hour could occur along the Interstate 85 corridor.
Trees had damaged power lines in Burke County, wbtv.com reported Wednesday evening. A car was also damaged by a falling tree, the site reported.
