In a season littered with 70-point games, by one team, and crazy offensive stats, we finally had some teams play defense Friday night.
“The difference in offensive and defensive lines is, I’d say they were close to 300 pounds,” Brown coach Mike Newsome told the Concord Independent Tribune. “We’re about 215 pounds on the defensive line. That’s one of the biggest football teams I’ve seen in a long time, going back to the old Independence games” when Newsome was coaching at Butler.
Hough has shut out two teams in its past three games.
The Mavericks, No. 1 in the Sweet 16, shut out Vance 41-0 Friday. Mallard Creek, No. 1 in the Sweet 16, has shut out three of its past four opponents. Only two teams all season have scored more than seven points -- Dillon, S.C., and Hough each had 21 – but the other six opponents only managed 17.
Vance totaled 71 yards against Mallard Creek Friday. Before that game, Vance was averaging 43.2 points per game. The Cougars scored 33 points at Richmond Senior and 40 against A.L. Brown, both strong squads.
