WDAV’s Sunday morning radio program, Biscuits & Bach, is celebrating its fifth anniversary. The public is invited to stop by and enjoy live music, giveaways and complimentary Bojangles’ biscuits and coffee from Summit Coffee. Cellist Tanja Bechtler and pianist Cynthia Lawing will perform baroque music from the John Clark Performance Studio.

PowerHouse Project – a nonprofit focusing on STD/AIDS prevention, education and outreach – is presenting this dance theater event. Acts will include Abundant Life Creative Expression (liturgical), The Sycamore Project (ballet), dancer/choreographer Deborah Maine (classic ballet), The House of Cartel (vogue) and A Dancer’s Love (jazz.) Reception catered by Mert’s Heart and Soul follows.
Carolina Place Fourth Annual Spring Family Festival

This year’s festival has a tropical theme and includes games, hula dancing by Aloha Island Hula Girls, crafts, a steel drum performance by Steel Impressions and a Radio Disney Charlotte Island Dance Party. Kids can convert their name to Hawaiian and write them on leis to wear at the event, play a tropical-themed bean bag toss game with prizes and learn to play the steel drum.
UNCC International Film Festival

Remaining films in the ongoing festival are “Yella” Monday, “Lost in Thailand” Tuesday and “The First Snowfall” Wednesday. UNCC faculty members and special guests will introduce the films, and discussions will follow. All films will be shown with English subtitles.
‘Rise for Freedom’

The one-act English-language opera “Rise for Freedom,” by composer Adolphus Hailstork, is set in 1860 Ripley, Ohio, and tells the story of John Parker, a freed slave who risks his freedom to help slaves escape bondage in Kentucky.
